Ganderbal, June 16: Soliha Zahoor, a promising young cyclist from Ganderbal, was among the standout participants at the recently held Cyclothon Pedal for Peace event, where she was warmly felicitated by top dignitaries for her exceptional contributions to the sport.
Having represented Jammu and Kashmir in four national-level cycling events across the country, Soliha has become a symbol of resilience, passion, and commitment. Her consistent performances and dedication to cycling have earned her admiration from sports enthusiasts and inspired many young athletes in the Union Territory.
At the event, Soliha had the honor of meeting Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, who lauded her achievements and applauded her efforts in promoting sports culture in the region. He emphasized the importance of youth participation in athletics and called Soliha a “role model for the new generation.”
She was also greeted by Commissioner/Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, who commended her determination and recognized the challenges faced by athletes, especially young women from remote areas. Mr. Hafeez reiterated the department’s commitment to supporting grassroots-level athletes like Soliha.
Further extending encouragement, Miss Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, praised Soliha for her grit and growing achievements. She highlighted the council’s ongoing efforts to ensure better training infrastructure and support systems for budding athletes in the UT.
The Cyclothon – Pedal for Peace event, aimed at promoting a message of harmony, health, and fitness through cycling, provided an excellent platform for emerging athletes like Soliha Zahoor to shine and receive well-deserved recognition.
