SKIMS hosts programme on women’s welfare, workplace empowerment

Srinagar, May 30: SKIMS and SKIMS MCH Friday organised a programme on women’s welfare under the guidance of Professor Sadaf Ali and Dr Shamila. The theme of the conference was ‘Making Women Empowered: Understanding Welfare of Working Women’.

This was held under the patronage of Professor Ashraf Ganie, Director SKIMS, who also served as the Chief Guest on the occasion. The special guest on the occasion was Dr Mantasha Binte Rashid, a renowned KAS officer, who highlighted women’s rights and emphasised the importance of providing equal opportunities to women. The programme was also graced by Advocate Nusrat Habib, Guest of Honour, who gave insights into how the law can play a role in addressing issues related to women’s welfare.

Professor Sadaf Ali, in her welcome address, focused on the issues faced by women in the workplace and outlined the future plans and commitment of the society. Other presentations included a detailed deliberation on rules pertaining to working women, presented by Dr Shahida, Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology. Dr Iqra Nazir raised awareness among the audience regarding what exactly constitutes women’s harassment. It was emphasised by the Director SKIMS that he is committed to addressing all issues highlighted in the programme and encouraged the audience to find positives in workplace pressures and excel in their respective fields. The key presentation came from Dr Shamila, who presented the survey results on various issues concerning SKIMS and SKIMS MCH. Dean Medical Faculty, Professor Gulzar, and Medical Superintendent, Professor Farooq Jan, chaired the presentation and provided valuable insights into the cause of women’s welfare and empowerment. There was a large attendance at the programme, with many marking their presence in solidarity with the cause of taking women’s welfare seriously.
