Ganderbal, May 29: Member of Parliament (MP) from Anantnag-Rajouri, Mian Altaf Ahmad on Thursday said the “#Kashmir Chalo” initiative is a welcome step and is receiving a positive response from tourism stakeholders across the country.
He said this while addressing reporters during an interaction session organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Hoteliers Club (JKHC) in Sonamarg – a renowned tourist destination in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The interaction, aimed at reviving the tourism sector post-Pahalgam terror attack, witnessed participation from tourism operators from various states and hoteliers from Kashmir.
Mian Altaf acknowledged that the attack had dealt a blow to the valley’s tourism industry but emphasised the importance of unity and collective efforts in bringing the sector back on track.
“Tourism is not just the concern of politicians — everyone in Jammu and Kashmir is directly or indirectly linked to this sector. Its revival is in the interest of all,” he said. “A thriving tourism industry will send a positive message across the country and boost the region’s overall environment.”
The MP appreciated the efforts of JKHC for engaging with tourism operators from different states and showcasing the ground realities in Kashmir. “They are satisfied after seeing the peaceful atmosphere here. Such interactions are important to clear misconceptions and build trust,” he said.
The senior National Conference (NC) leader called on the government, law enforcement agencies and security forces to take proactive steps to prevent incidents like the Pahalgam attack. “We must ensure such events are not repeated, so that the overall situation continues to improve,” he stressed.
Responding to a question about the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra, MP Altaf said preparations are in full swing and locals are eagerly awaiting to welcome the pilgrims. “Just like previous years, this year too, the yatra will go smoothly. The routes and facilities have been improved, and the people are ready to host the yatris warmly,” he added.
