Chandigarh, April 13: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress, accusing them of deliberately working together to disturb peace in Punjab. He said both parties are turning a blind eye to Pakistan-sponsored terrorist activities and are instead resorting to fear-mongering for petty political gains.
Chugh in a statement said that while the AAP government under Bhagwant Mann has failed to curb the alarming rise in grenade attacks across Punjab, Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa has been openly spreading panic by making claims such as “50 bombs have already entered Punjab” — creating an atmosphere of fear among the people.
He questioned the functioning of Punjab’s intelligence agencies under the AAP government. He asked why the state intelligence has failed to gather such critical inputs if they are indeed true.
Chugh demanded that Pratap Bajwa either share the said information with intelligence agencies for necessary action or stop “misleading and scaring” the people of Punjab with such “unverified” statements. Such fear-mongering only emboldens anti-national elements and erodes public trust in the administration, he added.
The BJP leader said that in the past six months, Punjab has witnessed over 16 grenade attacks. “The common people are already living under a constant sense of fear and insecurity. In such a sensitive environment, Congress is irresponsibly adding fuel to the fire instead of helping restore peace,” he said.
He further accused the INDI Alliance of conspiring to destabilise Punjab for narrow political motives. “Both Congress and AAP are playing with the security and stability of the state while Pakistan-sponsored threats loom large,” he said.
Chugh asserted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government is fully committed to tackling cross-border threats and safeguarding national security. “However, the indifference of the Punjab government and the inflammatory statements of Congress leaders have further worsened the situation in the sensitive border state,” he said.
