Srinagar, Apr 12: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V.K. Bidhuri, on Wednesday said that CCTV cameras will soon be installed in school buses across the Valley as part of a broader safety initiative.
Speaking to reporters, Bidhuri said the move is being jointly implemented by the Transport and Education departments. “The provision for CCTV cameras in school buses has been made to enhance student safety. A timeline has been set for its implementation, and both departments are working together to ensure it is executed soon,” he said.
On the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, Bidhuri informed that this year’s pilgrimage will take place from July 3 to August 9, with all necessary arrangements underway. He added that rail transport will play a supporting role in facilitating the Yatra for the first time.
Regarding preparations for upcoming religious events such as Eid and Muharram, he said special attention is being given to major religious sites across the Valley under the supervision of Deputy Commissioners.
On the cultural front, Bidhuri emphasised the importance of preserving Kashmir’s heritage. “Development and heritage are both key focuses. Kashmir is known globally for its art, culture, and craftsmanship. Pride in one’s roots is essential,” he said.
Responding to questions on infrastructure, Bidhuri confirmed the completion of three flyovers, while work is still ongoing on the Sanat Nagar bridge. He added that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department are handling the technical aspects. “So far, no major complaints have come to light. However, if any engineering issues are reported, we will investigate them,” he said.
