Pulwama, Mar 24: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has clarified that there is currently no proposal for the upgradation of Government High School Murran to the Higher Secondary level, citing feasibility concerns and resource constraints.
The information was provided in response to an un-starred Assembly Question by MLA Rajpora, Gh. Mohi-Ud-Din Mir.
The Minister Incharge affirmed that Government High School Murran was established in 1902 and is situated in a centrally located village with a population of over 5,000 residents. The school currently has 54 students enrolled in Class 10.
It was told that there are two nearby High Schools, namely High School Mitrigam and High School Putrigam, along with three Middle Schools in the vicinity—GMS Murran, UPS Dadoora, and MS Shahi-e-Hamdan Murran.
The Minister acknowledged that a formal demand for upgradation had been received by the Directorate of School Education (DSE), Kashmir. However, the proposal was found infeasible as per the department’s criteria. The minimum required distance between Higher Secondary Schools is 7 km, whereas Higher Secondary School Pulwama is less than 4 km away and Higher Secondary School Rahmoo is less than 5 km away.
It was stated that the School Education Department is currently prioritizing consolidation efforts in existing Higher Secondary Schools. The upgradation process would require significant financial investment in terms of infrastructure development and staff recruitment, which is not currently planned.
