Srinagar, Mar 24: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing tourism infrastructure in Lolab Valley and Bangus, aiming to develop them into major sustainable tourist destinations.
The information was revealed in response to a question raised by Qaysar Jamshaid Lone in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The query addressed concerns regarding the lack of tourism infrastructure in Lolab Valley and the steps taken for its development.
In reply, the Tourism Department stated that the Lolab-Bangus-Drangyari Tourism Development Authority was established in 2010 to boost tourism in these areas. Over the years, many projects have been undertaken under the Capex Budget and PMDP, leading to the creation of several tourism-related facilities.
Lolab Valley, known for its lush greenery, dense forests, and beautiful landscapes in Kupwara district of North Kashmir. It is home to pristine meadows, gushing streams, and rich biodiversity, making it a potential hotspot for eco-tourism and adventure tourism. However, despite its natural beauty, the region has long been considered underdeveloped in terms of tourism infrastructure.

To address these concerns, the government has developed several key facilities, including tourist accommodations such as a ten-bedroom hut at Chandigam, a two-bedroom hut at Dardpora, and another two-bedroom hut with a park and parking facility at Lalpora. Additionally, tourist cafeterias and hutments have been built at Diver and Khumriyal, with gender-sensitive amenities.
Public parks and tourist information centres have been set up at Sogam and Zangli Kupwara, while shelters and gender-sensitive blocks have been established at Satbaran Kalaroose.
