Jammu, Mar 22: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Zadibal and National Conference Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq has called for the formation of a House Committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the Jal Shakti Department, urging greater transparency and accountability in the sector.
Speaking during the demands for grants on Environment, Forest, and Jal Shakti, Sadiq stressed the urgent need to ban single-use plastic and promote biodegradable alternatives to tackle environmental degradation. He expressed grave concern over glacier melting caused by black carbon, warning that it posed a severe ecological threat and required immediate action.
Raising the issue of water billing, the NC leader demanded that the government should not impose water charges on the public, advocating for relief amid financial challenges faced by ordinary citizens.
MLA Sadiq also pressed for reconnecting the areas of Zadibal, Bagwanpora, Hawal, DD Bagh, and other localities to the Rangil water supply instead of the Nigeen source, arguing that this shift would ensure a more reliable and consistent water supply for residents.
