Srinagar, June 04: Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) chairman and former minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has lauded the Election Commission of India (ECI) for conducting the recently concluded parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir in a free, fair and efficient manner.
In a statement issued here, Yaseen congratulated the ECI for successfully holding the Lok Sabha election in Jammu and Kashmir, marking the first time this has happened since the era of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. “We hope that the dates for holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be announced soon to restore and strengthen people’s trust and confidence in the electoral democracy,” he said.
Hakeem also extended congratulations to all the political parties and independent candidates who won the elections, including Syed Agha Ruhullah Mehdi and Mian Altaf Ahmad of the National Conference (NC) and Er Rashid of Awami Ittihad Party (AIP). He lauded the administration, police, and security forces for making adequate arrangements to enable people to take part in the electoral process smoothly.
The former minister appealed to the government to release Er Rashid from detention so that he could represent his electorate in the new parliament of India.
