Ganderbal, March 21: In a major push for student safety and stricter traffic regulation, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Paul Singh Friday issued a stern directive to schools, asking them to install CCTV cameras in all school buses within a week or face action.
The directive was announced during a traffic enforcement drive in Ganderbal, where SSP Singh emphasised the critical need for adhering to traffic rules, particularly those concerning school transport. He warned that overloaded vehicles and those without proper documentation would be seized on the spot, reiterating the administration’s zero-tolerance policy toward traffic violations.
“Schools must comply with traffic rules and install CCTV cameras in their buses within a week. Failure to do so will invite strict action,” SSP Singh told Rising Kashmir.
The crackdown saw the impounding of multiple condemned vehicles, while several others were fined or issued challans. SSP Singh, accompanied by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Traffic Rural Ganderbal, Gulzar Ahmad, and other officials, led a comprehensive inspection to enforce compliance. He further stated that such enforcement drives would continue, aiming to promote responsible road practices and enhance student safety.
The move comes amid growing concerns about school bus safety, with authorities determined to implement stringent measures to prevent mishaps and ensure accountability in school transport operations. Parents have already hailed this step stating that this will ensure that all students are properly seated in the school buses. “This is indeed a good step to prevent overloading. We pay separately for bus fee just to see our children are properly seated in school buses,” said Shugufta, a parent. “Installation of CCTVs in school buses will also help prevent overloading of students.”
