Srinagar, Mar 20: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday said it has identified infrastructure deficiencies in schools across Doda West constituency and has sanctioned Rs 4.58 crore under UT Capex.
Responding to an Un-Starred Assembly Question by MLA Shakti Raj Parihar, the government said in a written reply that it has identified infrastructure deficiencies in schools across Doda West constituency.
“The gaps have been identified through field surveys, data from the UDISE portal, and inputs from elected representatives. Steps are being taken to improve infrastructure under District Capex, UT Capex, and CSS grants,” it said.
The government said that for the 2024-25 financial year, 44 infrastructure development projects have been approved in Doda West, with Rs 4.58 crore allocated under UT Capex and District Capex budgets. Of this, Rs 3.79 crore has already been utilised. Additionally, the Directorate of Samagra Shiksha has submitted a Rs 33.44 crore proposal for infrastructure upgrades in Doda district, it added.
Regarding the teacher-student ratio (PTR), the government revealed that Doda West has four educational zones: Ghat (11:1), Assar (19:1), Gundna (13:1), and Bhagwah (24:1). The constituency has a total enrollment of 25,738 students, with 514 teachers and 224 non-teaching staff currently in service.
To address the shortage of teaching staff, the government is implementing rationalisation and promotions. Additionally, 56 Cluster Resource Coordinators have been recruited to serve as subject-specific teachers in High and Higher Secondary Schools.
“The department is committed to improving school infrastructure and human resource availability in rural educational institutions. Further initiatives are being planned to ensure better learning facilities for students in Doda West,” the government said.
