Srinagar, March 12: Government Medical College Baramulla has performed Laparoscopic Ventral Mesh Rectopexy.
Health officials informed that a 38-year-old male presented to general surgery OPD with complaints of obstructive defecation and with a history of something coming out of rectum.
“The patient was evaluated from OPD and was diagnosed as a case of full thickness rectal prolapse. Anesthesia clearance was obtained and the patient was posted for a Laparoscopic Ventral Mesh Rectopexy,” they said.
Laparoscopic Rectopexy is a challenging procedure with regard to technical difficulties due to working deep in the narrow male pelvic with difficult ergonomics.
“A 6×12 cms mesh was sutured to the rectum and then tacked to the sacral promontry to support the redundant rectal wall,” they said.
The procedure was performed by Dr H Vaqar Ahmed, Head Department of Surgery supported and assisted by Dr Abid H Wani Assistant Prof, Dr Tajamul Hassan Assistant Prof and Dr Faud Sadiq consultant. Dr Yasir, consultant and his team Mudasir and Asif offered assistance in the procedure.
The procedure was completed uneventfully and the results were confirmed postoperatively with complete resolution of prolapse. The patient had an uneventful course after surgery.
