Srinagar, March 19: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Wednesday informed the Assembly that the Community Centre in Bagh-e-Mehtab has been converted into a library.
Choudhary stated this in response to a question raised by MLA Chanapora, Mushtaq Guroo.
The MLA had inquired about the current use of the community centre constructed in the area and whether it had been handed over to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
Responding to the question, Choudhary, who holds the portfolio of Public Works (R&B), said, “The community centre at Bagh-e-Mehtab was initially constructed by the R&B Division Chadoora under the Special Area Development Programme (SADP) and later included under the Languishing Programme.” He added: “However, the centre was repurposed and officially converted into a library in 2021.” He further clarified, “The community centre was handed over to the Deputy Director of Libraries and Research Kashmir, following the order issued by the District Development Commissioner Srinagar.”
