Srinagar, Mar 0 8: Manzoor Akash, a young writer and teacher from Rafiabad, Baramulla, has been selected to participate in the prestigious Sahitya Akademi’s Annual Festival of Letters (FOL) in New Delhi. Akash, a prominent figure in Kashmir’s literary scene, is the youngest writer ever to be nominated for this honor. The festival, which is being held from March 7 to 12, 2025, brings together eminent writers and scholars from across India.
Known for his creativity and literary prowess, Akash is a celebrated short story writer, poet, and regular columnist. His contributions to literature and culture have made him a youth icon in the region. Akash, who writes in English, has authored several books, including Verses of Heart, Handy Volume, The Legacy of Light, and A Harvest of Reminiscences. He is also a strong advocate for preserving Kashmir’s cultural heritage, earning him the title of ‘Culture Ambassador’ of Kashmir.
In addition to his literary work, Akash has received numerous accolades, including the National Peace Award and the J&K Smart Teacher Award in 2021. As a teacher and district-level coordinator for Shaikshik Aagaaz, he has made significant contributions to education.
Sahitya Akademi has taken care of Akash’s travel expenses, offering him air travel, accommodation, and a cash award for his participation in the festival. Akash expressed his gratitude for the support, thanking the Sahitya Akademi team, including Secretary Dr. K. Sreenivasarao and Program Officer Pankaj Seth.
Looking ahead, Akash shared that three of his books are in the running for the Akademi’s prestigious literary award, and he remains hopeful that one will be selected for recognition.
