Jammu, Mar 07 – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday inaugurated the third edition of the Tawi Festival, organised by the Hari Tara Charitable Trust (HTCT), at Amar Mahal Palace, Jammu. The event also marked the beginning of the Golden Jubilee celebrations commemorating 50 years of the Amar Mahal Museum and Library.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Karan Singh and everyone associated with the Hari Tara Charitable Trust for hosting the unique festival. He lauded the Trust for bringing together experts and practitioners from diverse fields to share and highlight new ideas in art, literature, and history.
In his speech, the Lieutenant Governor stressed the critical role of art and culture in society, stating that “art is the essential element for building an enlightened society and fostering the growth of citizens with a value system and creativity.” He further emphasized that art and culture are just as important as science and technology for a prosperous and peaceful world.
“Science and technology have provided new facilities and redefined the way human society works and lives,” said LG Sinha. “But modern instruments are incomplete without the rich and vibrant traditions of art and culture. We need a fine balance between technology and arts.”
He continued, “The role of new inventions in science and technology in making our civilization alive is incomparable. Therefore, I believe society needs artists, spiritualists, and scientists alike. The contributions of artists and intellectuals in inspiring societal change and enriching global knowledge platforms are invaluable.”
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the government’s commitment, under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to advancing the dual goals of development and preserving heritage, stating, “Vikas Bhi Virasat Bhi” (Both Progress and Heritage). He further emphasized the importance of promoting education rooted in local culture, moral values, and traditional knowledge.
“Society’s economic development is powered by art and culture. For sustainable growth, we need more creative leaders. Our efforts to connect the younger generation with our culture and values should be further deepened,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor acknowledged the measures taken by the government to promote the rich diversity and uniqueness of Jammu and Kashmir’s artistic, cultural, and linguistic heritage.
The inauguration was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Karan Singh, former Union Minister and Chairman of the Hari Tara Charitable Trust; trustees and members of the Trust; and senior officials from the police and civil administration.
