Srinagar, Mar 02: Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami on Sunday said the issue of statehood lies with the Centre, and he hopes necessary steps will be taken to fulfill the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The MLA Kulgam also assured that he would raise the issue of regularisation of casual and daily wagers in the House.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu after an all-party meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of the joint coalition parties ahead of the first budget session, Tarigami said they discussed issues but nothing particularly new. “The issue of statehood lies with the Central government. We hope they will take the necessary steps to fulfill the wishes and aspirations of the people of J&K,” he said, adding that the Centre must take the required steps to address the concerns of the people.
The CPI(M) leader further said he would bring up the issue of regularisation of casual and daily wagers before the government. “Efforts will be made collectively to draw the Centre’s attention to ensuring people’s rights,” he said.
“We will raise our voices in the House to urge the Central government to restore people’s rights,” he added.
