Pulwama: In a heart-wrenching incident, thieves struck at an orchard in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, leaving a widow, Tanveera, and her family devastated.

The orchard, owned by Tanveera and her brother-in-law, is located between the villages of Goosu and Deeri, at a place locally known as Deeri Kha.

The victims, residents of Rohmu village in Pulwama, had collected many boxes of Kullu variety of apples over the past couple of days.

These apples were gathered in a designated area within the orchard for post-harvest processing, which includes pedicle removal, grading, and packing.

Before the family could begin the crucial post-harvest operations, tragedy struck.

Thieves targeted the orchard during the intervening night of October 1st and 2nd, making off with around 200 boxes of apples.

This shocking theft has left Tanveera, a widow and mother of three dependent children, in a state of despair.

The loss of her husband to malignancy last year, after significant medical expenses, had already left the family deeply in debt.

The orchard was their sole source of income, making this theft a devastating blow to their already dire circumstances.

“How will I manage my family now? Why didn’t they have any pity for my dire straits?” lamented Tanveera, still reeling from the incident.

In the wake of this heart-wrenching theft, the affected families have appealed to the authorities for swift action.

Senior Superintendent of Police for Pulwama, Mohammad Yousaf, said that they shall register a case and the matter will be thoroughly investigated.
