Jammu, Feb 17: In response to reports of fare overcharging and the use of tinted windows in passenger vehicles, Dr. Mohd. Haseeb Mughal, DIG Traffic Range Jammu Monday inspected the bus stand to ensure transparency and safety compliance.
DIG Mughal was accompanied by Mohd. Fiesel Qureshi, SSP Traffic City Jammu, Arvinder Singh Kotwal, Addl. SP Traffic City Jammu, and other traffic officers. The inspection focused on addressing fare discrepancies and ensuring that public transport vehicles comply with safety regulations.
A statement issued here said that during the visit, it was found that many travel agency offices and stalls were not displaying the government-approved fare rate lists, which could lead to overcharging of interstate passengers. DIG Traffic Jammu instructed operators to prominently display the approved rate lists within three days, or face legal action. Additionally, the officers ensured that all passenger vehicles adhered to the safety guidelines set by the Supreme Court of India regarding the use of tinted films on windows. DIG Traffic Jammu also directed the installation of traffic police helpline numbers at prominent locations within the bus stand for public assistance. The inspection also revealed lapses in the GST filings of some travel agencies. Further investigations will be conducted to ensure that all travel agencies are registered and comply with the relevant regulations.
DIG Traffic Jammu stressed on the importance of maintaining transparency and adhering to legal and safety standards, particularly as Jammu is a hub for religious tourism. Regular inspections will continue to ensure the compliance of tour operators and the safety and satisfaction of commuters.
