Srinagar, Feb 12: On World Radio Day, RJ Umar Nisar stands as a shining example of how audio storytelling can bring change. Through his podcast Mashq Records, Umar has turned Kashmiri stories into a movement, raising awareness on important social issues like mental health, youth empowerment, and climate change. His work has made a strong impact, not just in Kashmir but across India, earning him several prestigious awards.
Umar’s journey in radio and digital media has been inspiring. Unlike many platforms that focus on trends, Mashq Records dives deep into real-life struggles, personal growth, and activism. His podcast has featured voices from Bollywood stars to grassroots changemakers, providing a space for meaningful discussions. “Mashq Records is not just a podcast; it’s a platform for unheard voices,” Umar says.
Radio has long been a powerful tool for information and connection, and Umar has used it effectively to counter misinformation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he partnered with UNICEF to spread vaccine awareness in Kashmir. His efforts earned him the Best Content Award at the Radio4Child Awards in 2022 and again in 2024. His contributions to media and advocacy continue to inspire young listeners who seek knowledge and change.
Beyond radio and podcasts, Umar has also made a mark in visual storytelling. His independent music label, Mashq Records, has produced several successful music videos. Some of his work has been recognized by India’s top leaders, and he has collaborated with Bollywood directors like Kabir Khan and Hriday Shetty.
On this World Radio Day, RJ Umar Nisar’s journey proves that audio storytelling remains a powerful force for change. Through Mashq Records, he continues to amplify voices, inspire action, and remind the world of radio’s lasting impact.
