Ganderbal, Feb 10: Several shops were damaged in the nocturnal blaze at Gagangir area of Gund in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, officials said Monday.
They said that a devastating fire broke out during the night in the Gagangir area of Gund in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, causing significant damage to several shops. The incident occurred late on Sunday evening. Locals said that fire engulfed several shops within no time and turned them into a heap of rubble. However, timely intervention by the fire and emergency department prevented further damaged.
Upon receiving the alert, Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) from Gund and APCO, along with personnel from Gund Police Station, the 34 Assam Rifles, CRPF 118 BN, and local residents, launched a swift firefighting operation. Their timely intervention helped to bring the blaze under control, preventing further damage to nearby structures.
Officials said that the structure damaged in the fire incident is a double storeyed building belong to one Abdur Rashid Sheikh son of Late Ghulam Muhammad Sheikh, resident of Gagangir, Gund, that comprised four shops and two rooms in ground flood and six rooms in the first floor. In the fire incident, the first floor got completely damaged. “However, there was no loss of life in the fire incident,” they said.
While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, officials have initiated an investigation to determine the reason behind the incident. No casualties have been reported in the incident
Locals appreciated the coordinated efforts of the fire service, security forces, and volunteers in controlling the fire and limiting the losses. Further assessment of the damages is underway. Authorities have urged shopkeepers and residents to take necessary precautions to prevent such incidents in the future. The fresh incident of fire is second in the Ganderbal district since Saturday. In Sonamarg area of the district, at least 40 shops worth crores of rupees turned into ashes in the devastating fire.
