JAMMU, OCT 16: The Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, conducted a comprehensive review of the projects undertaken by the Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), slated for completion in the near future.
Dr. Mehta stressed the importance of taking proactive and necessary measures to enhance the overall ambiance of Jammu city. He emphasized the need to expedite ongoing projects aimed at beautifying the city to enhance its aesthetic appeal.
The Chief Secretary reminisced about projects such as the transformation of Vikram Chowk, the installation of view cutters before SRTC yard, and the upgrading of Bahu Fort Road, Satwari Chowk, and Airport Road, which are expected to significantly uplift the city’s appearance.
He also urged officials to extend IT-based smart solutions to the city’s residents, aligning with the commitment to offer all services online in the Union Territory. Dr. Mehta stressed that the city’s residents not only deserve world-class infrastructure but also services that can be accessed with the click of a button.
In regards to the new fleet of 100 e-buses set to serve the public through JSCL, the Chief Secretary directed the swift dedication of the already received buses to the public. He urged the department to consider taking necessary staff from the extensive UT employee pool or hiring individuals with the appropriate skill sets. Dr. Mehta stressed the importance of completing the formalities in the coming days to ensure that the public can benefit from this bus service without further delay.
During the event, the Chief Secretary unveiled several new IT-based services available through the ‘MyJammu’ portal. He called on the department to create awareness among the city’s residents about the uses and benefits of these services. Dr. Mehta emphasized the importance of making service delivery efficient and cost-effective for the general public by continuously improving quality based on their feedback.
The services launched include General Information Services, Tourism Information Services, GIS services, Smart Addressing System, Grievance portal, G2C Services, Enforcement Module, Litigation, and Document Management Systems.
Residents can use these services to book machinery, arrange septic tank cleaning, book water tankers, access community halls, and reserve space for hoardings, among other functions. The platform also provides information on the precise locations of public infrastructure, such as health institutions, fire stations, blood banks, government offices, educational institutions, libraries, parking facilities, cycle stations, bus stands, railway stations, the airport, as well as infrastructure for senior citizens and women in the city.
The portal also allows residents to lodge GPS-based sanitation-related grievances by uploading photographs. The Municipal body can then respond by sending sanitation staff to clean the area, with instant feedback provided to the citizen complainant.
Dr Mehta commended the corporation for these initiatives, which bring Jammu in line with the services available in major modern cities across the nation. He encouraged further additions of citizen-friendly services to ensure Jammu competes favourably with other cities in the country in the months to come.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, H&UDD; Commissioner Secretary, IT; Commissioner JMC & CEO, JSCL, and various other concerned officials.
