Jammu, Jan 27: A seven-day training program on Scientific Beekeeping, organised by the Apiculture Development Scheme under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), concluded with the felicitation of 50 farmers and beekeepers from the Jammu and Samba districts.
The event took place at Baba Jitto Kisan Kendra, Jammu, and aimed to enhance skills and awareness among prospective beekeepers.
Director of Agriculture, Jammu, S. Arvinder Singh Reen, presided over the ceremony, presenting participants with toolkits, educational literature, bee flora saplings, and certificates of participation. Earlier in the program, participants visited the Apiculture Demonstration cum Training Centre in Chimney Chak, Jammu, where they received hands-on training in hive operations and colony management.
In his address, Director Reen highlighted the department’s commitment to advancing the region’s beekeeping sector. He announced plans for organising exposure programs outside the Union Territory and the establishment of a laboratory and honey processing unit in the public sector, which will significantly benefit beekeepers in Jammu.
The program also included an interactive feedback session led by Assistant Entomologist Rajesh Verma, where participants shared positive feedback on the comprehensive training and practical insights provided.
Key officials present at the ceremony included Deputy Director Trainings (J) Shri Alok Pandotra, Agronomist (VIS) Shri Vikas Padha, Divisional Seed Certification Officer Prem Singh, and Chairman JKDCF & UAMMCL Shri Vikrant Dogra, among others. The successful execution of the program reflects the Directorate of Agriculture’s dedication to promoting apiculture and supporting farmers in the region. This initiative is seen as a stepping stone toward strengthening the apiculture industry in Jammu and Kashmir, fostering sustainable livelihoods, and boosting honey production across the region.
