Leh, Jan 26: The Union Territory of Ladakh has seen an unprecedented growth and development under various sectors, said Lieutenant Governor (Rtd) Brigadier Dr BD Mishra on Sunday.
Addressing a gathering after unfurling the national flag on 76th Republic Day, the LG outlined a vision for a prosperous and sustainable Ladakh.
The LG highlighted the creation of five new districts in Ladakh, marking a significant administrative milestone. He emphasised ongoing efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and highlighted strides in education, health, tourism, and infrastructure.
The LG said that key achievements of Ladakh include the removal of diesel generators from most areas, progress on the 220 kV transmission systems, and the establishment of a Green Corridor project to support sustainable energy initiatives. The LG also lauded advancements in educational opportunities, skill development programs, and the promotion of winter sports such as the Khelo India Winter Games.
In the health sector, the establishment of a medical college was noted as a transformative step, while the Jal Jeevan Mission continues to improve rural water supply. Ladakh’s emergence as a premier destination for tourism and sports is being supported by initiatives to host events and enhance the region’s appeal, LG Ladakh said.
He also congratulated winners of the newly introduced Union Territory Awards, which recognised five individuals each from Leh and Kargil for their exceptional contributions to regional development. He expressed hope that these awards would inspire greater community engagement.
Calling for unity and cooperation, LG Mishra urged the people of Ladakh to work toward a “corruption-free and delay-free” administration. He particularly encouraged youth to contribute to making Ladakh the most developed Union Territory in the country.
