Jammu, Jan 22: The election for the next President of the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit is set to take place on January 24, 2025, with the results to be announced on the same day at 12:00 noon, according to an official notification issued by the Returning Officer (RO), Sanjay Bhatia on Wednesday.
The nomination filing process for the election will conclude on January 23, with submissions open from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The scrutiny of nominations will follow the same day, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Party insiders informed Rising Kashmir that Sat Sharma, the incumbent J&K BJP President, is highly likely to be re-elected as the next chief by unanimous consent. The organisational elections for the Mandal and District Presidents within the J&K BJP have already concluded and paved the way for the UT-level leadership election.
Sources within the party said that the BJP high command at the national level has expressed a strong preference for Sat Sharma to be elected unopposed.
“The party high command wants the J&K BJP President to be elected unopposed and by consensus,” said a senior BJP source. “Sat Sharma has emerged as the consensus candidate and enjoys the confidence of both the central and state leadership.”
According to BJP’s organisational norms, Presidents at all levels—state, union territory, or national—are generally elected unopposed, reflecting the party’s prioritisation of collective agreement over internal competition.
Sat Sharma, who had earlier been appointed as the Working President of the J&K BJP during the Assembly elections, has played a pivotal role in the party’s organisational and electoral strategies in the region.
