Budgam, Jan 20 heavy vehicles continue to ply on Baily Bridge in Beerwah despite the Roads and Buildings Department declaring it unsafe in 2024.
Bilal Ahmad, a local resident, told Rising Kashmir that the Bailey Bridge over Nallah Sukhnag sustained damage during the floods in 2014.
“The bridge was closed for traffic for two months following the floods, and repairs were carried out by the department during that time,” he said.
“Some individuals vandalized these iron rods in 2024, and since then, heavy traffic has been using the bridge daily,” locals said.
An official from the Roads and Buildings Department Division in Beerwah confirmed that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of a new bridge is underway.
“Once the DPR for this bridge receives approval, construction will commence following the completion of the tendering process,” he said.
