Rajouri, Jan 17: Sunil Sharma, BJP MLA from Padder Nagseni and the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Friday criticised the Omar Abdullah-led government for its “negligent response” to a series of mysterious deaths in Badhaal village, Rajouri. Since December 7, a total of 16 persons from three different families have died in three separate incidents, causing widespread concern and panic among the residents.
Sharma condemned Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for what he described as an alarming indifference to the tragic situation, saying that the CM was reportedly engaged in skiing and enjoying snowfall while lives were being lost in his constituency.
“The Chief Minister should have addressed this crisis from day one,” Sharma said. “Instead, he opted to send his ministers, who also failed to visit Badhaal. Instead, they held meetings at Kotranka and departed without genuinely addressing the situation, which indicates a lack of seriousness on their part.”
The BJP leader further alleged that the Chief Minister convened a meeting only after BJP representatives highlighted the plight of the affected families and the urgent need for government action. He said the National Conference (NC)-led government should have prioritised this grave issue, saying, “Sixteen innocent lives have been lost, and this has spread a wave of panic among the residents.”
Expressing his condolences to the families of the victims, Sunil Sharma said the BJP is actively cataloguing the issues and grievances of the local population. He assured that these matters have been brought to the attention of the relevant authorities, including the Government of India, for redressal.
