Health Minister Sakina Masood Itoo on Saturday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring quality patient care across hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that no negligence will be tolerated.

During her visit to the Chest Disease (CD) Hospital in Srinagar, Itoo addressed concerns regarding patient care and internal challenges faced by medical staff.

“The purpose of these visits is to address complaints about inadequate patient care and to resolve issues faced by doctors, superintendents, and paramedical staff,” she said.

The minister made it clear that hospital inspections aim to improve healthcare services, stating, “There should be no compromise on patient care. Where challenges exist, the government will intervene to ensure smooth service delivery.”

On reports regarding the possible relocation of the CD Hospital to GB Pant Sonwar, Itoo clarified, “There is no proposal to shift the hospital at present.

However, issues like congestion, lack of beds, and the absence of lifts and ramps need urgent attention, and we are working to address them.”

She also called upon doctors to maintain professionalism, urging them to enhance their approach toward patient care. “I appeal to doctors to ensure the best possible treatment for patients,” she stated.

Speaking about concerns over negligence in private hospitals, Itoo firmly stated, “Arrogance or negligence no matter how influential the individual or institution will not be tolerated. Patient care is our top priority.”

Additionally, she warned against doctors engaging in private practice during hospital hours, stating that strict action would be taken against those found violating norms.

Itoo assured that the government remains committed to addressing public grievances and strengthening the healthcare infrastructure across J&K. (KNS)
