Jammu, Jan 01: Bimla Luthra, State Vice President Women Wing and former MLA Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, on Monday said the present government has failed to take any concrete steps to reduce the suffering of women amid the challenging economic conditions.
Addressing the meeting in Kathua here during which various women workers joined the National Conference, Luthra said, “Today there is a dire need to make the women fully aware about their rights and take appropriate and adequate steps to empower the women folk so that they come forward to demand their entitlement under such rights.”
“Since the majority of women are homemakers, they are the worst victims of the skyrocketing prices, property tax and unprecedented inflation during the BJP rule due to the wrong policies,” she said, adding, “Due to the non-availability of basic amenities including water, power, roads, old age pension, etc the people of Budhi village are going through tough times. They are facing unscheduled power cuts and erratic water supply.”
Sham Narian Mehta, District President Kathua Rural asked people to be “cautious” of the “divisive policies” of the BJP and support the National Conference in the upcoming polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mrs Pinky Khalsa, District President Jammu Urban women wing and Ashu Rajput also addressed the meeting. They asked people to strengthen the hands of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdulah while working at the grassroots level.
