Srinagar, Jan 01: In a significant development, the court in Jammu and Kashmir declared 23 terrorists from the Kishtwar district, believed to be operating from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), as proclaimed offenders on Monday, as reported by the police.
Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, Anand Jain directed officers to promptly identify immovable properties owned by these terrorists for further attachment under Section 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr. PC).
SSP Kishtwar, Poswal, highlighted the diligent efforts of the police, which initiated the process by gathering crucial intelligence and lodging FIR No. 90/2022 under Sections 120-B, 121-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and 13/18/39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at PS Chatroo.
Poswal, further, stated that the investigation, led by CIO Kishtwar, presented all formalities before the UAPA special court in Doda. Following the terrorists’ declaration as proclaimed offenders, the process of attaching their properties will be carried out under Section 83 of Cr. PC, provided they do not surrender within the given timeframe.
The SSP mentioned that the identification process for properties belonging to seven out of the 13 terrorists declared proclaimed offenders in September has been successfully completed. Legal procedures for attachment have been set in motion within the court.
This development follows a previous announcement in which 13 terrorists were declared proclaimed offenders by the UAPA Special Court in Doda, bringing the total count to 36. The list of proclaimed offenders includes individuals with detailed information such as residence and family names.
