Srinagar, Dec 10: The Department of Wildlife Protection (Wetland Division) has launched a series of raids in Srinagar following viral social media videos allegedly showing individuals involved in illegal poaching activities in Wular Lake.
The videos display individuals carrying firearms, raising concerns about potential wildlife hunting in the Lake.
Acting swiftly, the department conducted coordinated raids targeting suspects believed to be linked to the illegal activities. Preliminary reports suggest that the raids may result in the confiscation of firearms and the apprehension of individuals involved.
A wildlife official said that they will go tough against any violation of the law. “Today’s operation highlights the department’s unwavering commitment to protect wildlife and preserve the ecological integrity of protected areas such as Wular Lake,” he said, wishing not to be named.
The department has reiterated its call for public cooperation in reporting illegal activities that endanger Kashmir’s rich biodiversity.
