Srinagar, Dec 10: Faizan (name changed), a 22-year-old from South Kashmir, has shared his heart-breaking story of falling into the trap of drug addiction and his inspiring journey to recovery.
Currently being treated at the Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS) Srinagar, Faizan’s experience is a powerful reminder of the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of seeking help.
Faizan’s descent into addiction began innocently. “It started with cigarettes. My friends introduced me to smoking, calling it fun. Over time, they encouraged me to try stronger substances. At first, they gave me drugs for free. I didn’t realize it was a trap meant to destroy my life,” he shared.
What began as casual experimentation turned into a severe addiction? Faizan started using heroin and other drugs, skipping school and spending all his resources to sustain his habit. “I lost control of my life,” he told Rising Kashmir.
His turning point came when his father discovered him injecting drugs in his bedroom. “My father caught me and immediately took me to IMHANS Srinagar. I stayed there for ten days, received treatment, and attended counselling sessions that changed my life,” Faizan said.
The comprehensive care and support at IMHANS helped Faizan regain control. “I am grateful to the doctors and counsellors here. They gave me a second chance. Now, I feel stronger and more determined to lead a drug-free life,” he added.
Faizan now urges others to seek help before it’s too late. “Addiction starts quickly, but getting out takes time and effort. Drug dealers often give substances for free initially to trap you, and once you’re hooked, they exploit you. Many addicts turn to stealing to fund their habit.”
He concluded with a message for those struggling with addiction: “Don’t hide it. Seek help and save your life before it’s too late.”
Faizan’s story is one of hope and recovery, proving that timely support and determination can overcome even the darkest challenges.
