Srinagar, Dec 03: Division of vegetable science concluded a six weeks off-campus entrepreneurship and skill development training programme (ESDP) on “Low cost protected cultivation of vegetable crops”, at Repore A, Ganderbal from 21-10-2024 to 1-12-2024. The training was financed by the Ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), govt of India. A group of twenty-five unemployed rural youth trained in this programme.
Participants were trained about various aspects of growing vegetables in low cost protected structures, like a package of practices for green leafy, indigenous, exotic vegetables, types of protected structures, Govt. and bank policies etc by experts from SKUAST-K and other institutions. Various types of modern day farm implements, vegetable seed kits and vermicompost kits were distributed during the course. Theory lectures were supported by method demonstrations and practical sessions.
At the concluding session, Head Division of Vegetable Science Prof Asif Bashir Shikari emphasized upon the importance of protected cultivation in today’s era particularly in temperate regions like Kashmir. Participants expressed their gratitude to the organizers and accepted that this programme has added to their knowledge.
