Srinagar, Nov 03: Several political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir condemned the grenade attack at the Sunday Market near the Tourism Reception Centre (TRC), which injured around a dozen civilians.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah in his words of condemnation said, “The recent surge of violence in the valley is truly devastating and completely intolerable. The grenade attack on innocent shoppers at Srinagar’s bustling ‘Sunday Market’ today serves as a stark reminder of the tragic consequences of these mindless acts.”
He said targeting civilians is never justifiable and those responsible for these cowardly attacks must be held accountable. The security forces must ramp up their efforts to bring back peace and ensure that the people of Jammu and Kashmir can live without the constant threat of fear and violence, he said. “Concrete actions must be taken to safeguard our citizens,” he stressed.
Among others, the party’s General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Party MPs Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and Mian Altaf Ahmad also condemned the attack unequivocally.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Tariq Hameed Karra while condemning the grenade attack at the Sunday Market urged J&K Police to take effective measures to address such attacks so that the public can move freely without fear. The MLA prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
J&K People’s Conference president and MLA Handwara, Sajad Lone expressed deep sympathy for the victims. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent civilians injured in today’s tragic grenade attack near TRC in Srinagar,” he said in a statement.
“This act of violence, intended to instill fear and cause harm, only serves to strengthen the resolve to work towards a safe and peaceful future for every citizen,” Lone said. “We stand united against such senseless acts and pray for the swift recovery of those injured.”
Apni Party while denouncing the attack termed it the “worst form of terrorism”. “Lobbing a grenade in a busy market is the worst form of terrorism, and it appears that those responsible for this horrific attack aim to create fear among the masses. Security agencies should leave no stone unturned in apprehending the attackers as soon as possible so they can be brought to justice,” the party said in a statement.
It added, “Apni Party extends its deepest sympathies to those injured in this incident. May Almighty grant them a swift recovery.”
