Srinagar, Oct 28: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) CID, Nitish Kumar Monday said that they are committed to resolve public grievances on priority regarding the passport verification, service and other issues. The initiative is aimed at improving public-police interaction and addressing grievances promptly, he said.
Speaking after inauguration of Public Grievance Cell at CID Headquarters in Srinagar, ADGP Kumar said that a similar cell is being set up in Jammu to offer these services there as well.
He said the setting of this cell aligns with the directives of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to minimize the direct interface between the police and the public while ensuring timely resolution of grievances. It is part of the administration’s effort to enhance public service delivery in Jammu and Kashmir, the officer said.
“We are committed to addressing public concerns efficiently, particularly those related to passport verification and other services. A similar cell is also being set up in Jammu to extend these services,” Kumar said.
ADGP CID Kumar also highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating that while a system for addressing verification-related grievances was already in place, the new cell aims to streamline and expedite the process.
“The goal is to address issues more swiftly. Any grievances related to passport services, police verifications, and other concerns will be resolved here. We are also making efforts to raise awareness about these services,” he said.
Kumar further said that sometimes crucial feedback from the public is overlooked, and this initiative will help bridge that gap. This is a significant step in improving public service delivery.
“It will allow us to connect more effectively with people and enhance our services. The weekly grievance redressal camps will provide a direct platform for the public to voice their concerns,” he said.
ADGP CID, Kumar this public grievance cell will operate once a week initially (Tuesday), with senior officers. Even sometimes I will also remain available to personally address grievances.
“If the response is strong, we may extend the cell’s operations to twice a week. We encourage people to come directly with their concerns, either verbally, in writing, or through other means,” he said.
In addition to in-person complaints, ADGP CID Kumar said that the department has shared digital platforms with the public to ensure easy access to the grievance redressal process. The initiative is expected to receive positive feedback and contribute to improved police-public relations in the region, he added.
Earlier this year, the J&K Government promoted Kumar as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) CID. He has extensive experience serving in various capacities throughout Kashmir, particularly in counter-terrorism.
His notable positions include Superintendent of Police (SP) in Handwara, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Pulwama and Anantnag, as well as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for South and North Kashmir. He has also worked with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other central agencies.
