Srinagar, Oct 18: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday appointed senior National Conference leader Mubarak Gul as the Pro-tem Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
As per the order, Gul, who won the assembly election from the Eidgah constituency, will administer the oath to the newly elected members of the Legislative Assembly on October 21 at 2 pm.
The appointment was made under Section 24 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, empowering the Lieutenant Governor to assign this responsibility.
“Mubarak Gul shall administer the oath to the members of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on October 21 at 02:00 pm in Srinagar”, reads an official order.
The order also reads that Gul will continue to discharge the functions of the Speaker until a permanent Speaker is elected.
