Srinagar, Oct 12: Talented and experienced opening batsman, Shubham Khajuria created history by becoming the only third batsman to score a double ton and the only batter to hit 250 plus runs for Jammu and Kashmir in a Ranji Trophy match, while young Shivansh Sharma showed patience and perseverance to hit a valuable century as J&K declared their first innings at 519/7 against Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group-A match at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here on Saturday.
In reply, Maharashtra were 28/1 in their first innings at stumps on day-2.
SA Veer was at the crease on 13 and SS Dgas was unbeaten on 10 when the stumps were drawn. MS Trunkwala was the only batsman to be dismissed.
Rasikh Salam took the lone wicket to fall.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight score of 264/4, the duo of Shubham and Shivansh showed stellar grit, tenacity solidity and sublimity in their big partnership of 231 runs, thus sending the rival bowlers on a rampage.
The pair powered Jammu and Kashmir to declare their innings at the fag end of the day and put Maharashtra batsmen under tremendous pressure.
Shubham scored 255 runs off 353 balls, studded with 29 fours and 8 sixes, thus becoming the only third J&K batter after cricketing stalwarts–Ashwani Gupta and Kavaljeet Singh to score a double century for J&K and the only batsman to score 250 plus runs in an innings, while young wicketkeeper batsman Shivansh remained unbeaten on 106 off 288 balls, studded with 10 fours and 2 sixes.
Shubham Singh Pundir (37), Paras Dogra (30), Abid Mushtaq (29*) and Abdul Samad (23) were the other contributors
HA walung was the most successful bowler for Maharashtra, who took 4 wickets by conceding 143 runs in his 43 overs, while RN Gurbani, MG Choudhary and Arshin Kulkarni claimed one wicket each.
Meanwhile, Member-Administration JKCA Brig Anil Gupta and Member Cricket Operations Mithun Manhas have congratulated the team for this performance and appreciated Shubham Khajuria and Shivansh Sharma for their wonderful knocks.
