Shopian, Oct 10: Shopian: Dryland Agriculture Research Station, Rangreth SKUAST-K through its AICRP on Forage Crops (IGFRI) organized an Input Distribution-cum-Farmers Awareness Event under
Tribal Sub-Plan of GoI. The event was organized at Shopian with the logistical support of KVK Shopian Balpora and was attended by around 25 tribal farmers from Zakren Village of Keller Block. Dr. Zaffar Badri, Head of KVK Shopian acquainted farmers with the latest developments made by
SKUAST-K for increasing the value of their agriculture lands through new interventions. Dr. Zahida Rashid, Senior Scientist (Agronomy), and I/C TSP emphasized the importance of cultivating such fodder oats to eradicate the scarcity of fodder for livestock in tribal areas of the Valley.
During the event, tribal farmers were provided basic inputs like farm tools and quality fodder
seed on complimentary basis to support their farming efforts. Through this initiative, DARS and KVK teams emphasized the importance of modern interventions in dryland agriculture,
helping farmers optimize their land productivity with new varieties and technologies suited
for forage cultivation. The event was also attended by Scientists of KVK Shopian, who also shared their experience and scientific know-how of modern techniques of overall development of tribal farming community.
