Doda, Oct 05: A student from Green Model Higher Secondary School at Doda district has achieved success in the Toycathon 2023 initiative as his nine toy designs have been officially registered under Design Rights by the CGPDTM. This initiative was successfully launched by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) of Jammu and Kashmir for students in grades 6 to 12 within the Union Territory.

Waqar Hussain Mintoo, a student from the Doda district, told Rising Kashmir that he has created over nine toys as part of the Toycathon 2023 initiative. All the toys he developed have been officially registered under Design Rights by the Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (CGPDTM).

“The toys I have created under the Toycathon initiative include educational toys made from matchboxes, a game set featuring pop-in marble bottles with dice, an educational toy focused on touch and sight, decorative articles made from matchboxes, a marble board game, a caterpillar board game with dice, a soft toy, decorative items made from matchsticks, and an educational toy for color combinations,” Mintoo said.

He emphasized that the toys he designed are intended for children, particularly those attending school. The primary goal of these toys is to help school-going children reduce their reliance on mobile devices. He believes that once children engage with these toys, they will find them enjoyable due to their unique qualities and appeal.

“I have participated in several competitions at the school, district, and Union Territory levels. Ultimately, the designs of my toys have been registered through this Toycathon initiative. Toycathon is an excellent initiative that provides students with the opportunity to design toys according to their preferences. Students also compete with other students from other districts of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Adding, “In the game set titled POP-IN Marble Bottles with Dice toy (Utilizing Bottles and Marbles), I have created this engaging activity using repurposed bottles, which have been cut and assembled to enhance the gaming experience. Players begin by rolling the dice, after which they must shake the bottle in an effort to place the marbles into one of the designated sections of the bottle, corresponding to the number rolled on the dice.”

He said, “Similarly, in the game set known as POP-IN Marble Bottles with Dice toy (Utilizing Bottles and Marbles), I have crafted this enjoyable game from discarded bottles, which have been modified and arranged to provide a fun experience.”

Dr. Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director of SCERT J&K, informed Rising Kashmir that the Toycathon 2023 initiative has achieved notable success in Jammu and Kashmir. A total of 115 toy designs created by students from the Union Territory have been officially registered under Design Rights by the Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (CGPDTM).

” The Toycathon 2024 initiative has already been launched in Jammu and Kashmir. We are hopeful that the district level competitions will also get completed after the 10th of this month,”Manhas said.
