Kupwara, Sept 30: As the third phase of assembly elections is being held on Tuesday, 5,40,483 voters from the border district of Kupwara will decide the fate of 59 candidates across six constituencies. The constituencies in Kupwara include Trehgam, Langate, Handwara, Kupwara, Lolab, and Karnah.
According to data, Trehgam has 10 candidates in fray, Langate has 15, Handwara has seven, Kupwara has eight, Lolab has 11, and Karnah has eight candidates competing for the seats.
The statistics reveal that Trehgam has 78,509 voters, Langate has 1,20,211, Handwara has 98,404, Kupwara has 94,956, Lolab has 90,392, and Karnah has 57,951 voters.
The Election Commission of India has set up 622 polling stations across the district to ensure smooth voting. Of these, 599 are located in rural areas, while 23 polling stations have been designated for urban areas.
Trehgam has 39,000 male voters and 39,569 female voters, Kupwara has 47,181 male voters and 47,772 female voters, Lolab has 45,319 male voters and 45,073 female voters, Handwara has 50,026 male voters and 48,376 female voters, and Langate has 60,056 male voters and 60,152 female voters.
A close contest is expected in all six constituencies, with the district being a focal point for all regional political parties. Major contenders include the National Conference, PDP, BJP, Apni Party, People’s Conference, AIP, and other regional parties.
