Srinagar, Sept28: The upper reaches of Kashmir were blanketed by the season’s first snowfall, while the plains received normal rainfall, signaling a sudden shift in the region’s weather patterns.
According to the Meteorological Department, fresh snowfall was recorded in areas including Sonamarg, the Kali Mata region along the Amarnath track, and Panjtarni Cave. In contrast, lower areas such as Rezan, Kullan, and Gund experienced light rainfall.
This abrupt change in weather has disrupted normal life across both the upper and lower regions, with temperatures dropping below normal. Residents were compelled to retrieve their winter clothing and turn on vehicle heaters as the mercury fell.
However, by the afternoon, conditions improved, allowing residents to venture outdoors. The Meteorological Department has since forecast mainly dry weather for the coming days, offering some relief after the sudden cold snap.
The early signs of winter have prompted locals to prepare for the approaching chill, with expectations of colder months ahead.
