Pulwama, Sept 21: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesperson Mohit Bhan on Saturday accused Muntazir Mohiuddin, a senior leader of the Apni Party, of being a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) “B team”. He has demanded an explanation from National Conference (NC) leader and Member of Parliament (MP) Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi regarding his party’s “apparent alignment” with BJP “proxies”.
The accusations follow Mohiuddin’s withdrawal of his nomination from the Budgam constituency and his subsequent endorsement of NC leader Omar Abdullah.
Addressing the media persons in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday, Bhan said that Mohiuddin has been closely associated with the BJP for the past five years. He expressed concern over the Apni Party leader’s decision to back Omar Abdullah, alleging that the NC has made a “backdoor deal” with BJP-affiliated figures.
The PDP spokesperson reminded the public of Ruhullah Mehdi’s past declarations, where he said he would resign from the NC if his party ever aligned with the BJP or accepted support from its proxies. He questioned whether Ruhullah has sought an explanation from his party regarding Mohiuddin’s support for the NC candidate in Budgam, which is Mehdi’s home constituency.
Taking to social media site X, Bhan wrote, “Key member of BJP’s B-Team has officially announced support for Omar Abdullah in Budgam. I urge MP Aga @RuhullahMehdi to clarify his stand on aligning with the BJP in his home turf. Kashmir deserves transparency, not backdoor deals.”
Muntazir Mohiuddin, who withdrew his nomination papers on Friday, announced his support for Omar Abdullah, saying the people of Jammu & Kashmir have been “stripped” of their rights and that it is crucial to elect a leader who will advocate for their interests.
