JAMMU, Sept 20: Following a high voter turnout in the first phase of the Assembly elections, the BJP is set to intensify its campaign efforts ahead of the second phase, scheduled for September 25. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will spearhead the push, addressing five rallies tomorrow, followed by an additional rally on September 22.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Friday night ahead of the hectic day-long campaigning on Saturday during which he will address five public rallies in three districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Shah arrived here from Delhi and drove straight to the State Guest house, a senior BJP leader said.
Shah will fly to Poonch early tomorrow morning and address the first of four rallies in Mendhar followed by Surankote in Poonch district, he added.
The second phase will cover constituencies in Reasi, Rajouri, and Poonch districts of Jammu region, and Srinagar and Budgam districts of the Valley. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already launched the campaign for this phase, having addressed two rallies on Wednesday, in Srinagar city and Katra town. The PM had earlier campaigned during the first phase, speaking at a rally in Doda on September 14.
BJP National President JP Nadda and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur are also set to join the campaign. Nadda will arrive in Jammu on September 22 to lead two rallies at Kangra Fort and Greater Kailash, as well as a roadshow in Parade. Anurag Thakur will arrive tomorrow, addressing rallies in Pouni, Arnas, Satwari, and Gulabgarh to mobilize support.
Shah’s rallies tomorrow will be held in Rajouri, Thannamandi, Surankote, Mendhar, and Akhnoor, with a sixth rally planned in Nowshera on September 22, shifting the BJP’s focus from Chenab Valley to the Pir Panjal region.
The BJP’s top brass is deploying its full campaign force to maintain momentum and boost the party’s chances ahead of the second phase of polling.
