Srinagar, Sep 10: In preparation for the upcoming Assembly Elections, Inspector General of Police Kashmir V.K. Birdi conducted a comprehensive security review in Anantnag district on Tuesday. The meeting aimed to assess the security arrangements for the first phase of elections, scheduled for September 18.
A police spokesman reported that IGP Birdi underscored the importance of close coordination among all security agencies. He directed officials to implement proactive measures to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the electoral process. The IGP emphasized maintaining vigilant oversight on anti-national elements and securing the movement of security forces along National Highways.
During his visit, IGP Birdi also inspected various camping locations for incoming Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) companies in Anantnag. He reviewed the on-ground arrangements and provided immediate directives to ensure adequate facilities for CAPF officers and jawans.
Earlier, DIG South Kashmir Range (SKR) Anantnag, Javid Iqbal Matoo, outlined the security measures, including CAPF camping locations, polling booth setups, and strongroom security in South Kashmir. Matoo highlighted the logistics for CAPF deployment and the route plans for poll party induction and de-induction, emphasizing the importance of securing polling booths and strongrooms.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including DIG SKR Anantnag Javid Iqbal Matoo, Commander 1st Sector, DIG CRPF Awantipora, DIG BSF, DIG ITBP, and all Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from the South Kashmir Range.
In a parallel effort, DIG North Kashmir Range (NKR) Baramulla Maqsood-ul-Zaman and SSP Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani visited the forward area of Keran to review security arrangements. The focus was on ensuring a secure election process given the strategic importance of the Keran region. They held discussions with senior army officers to review the current security scenario and met with local residents to build confidence and assure them of the district police’s commitment to safeguarding the election process.
The officers also inspected Police Station Keran to assess law-and-order conditions and review preparations for the elections.
