Srinagar, Sept 07: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) president Altaf Bukhari on Saturday said the upcoming assembly elections are an important opportunity for Jammu & Kashmir to “regain its lost identity” and demonstrate its commitment to democracy.
During a reach-out programme in the Chanapora Assembly constituency, Bukhari said the elections will send a clear message to the country and the ruling BJP that the people of Jammu & Kashmir do not support the current governance and decisions made by the party.
He said the Apni Party has already made its manifesto public, which includes promises such as providing amnesty, addressing the region’s power crisis, creating two lakh jobs, improving pensions and assistance programs and restoring statehood to Jammu & Kashmir.
We are hopeful about the public’s response to the elections and their desire for their own representatives, he added.
Bukhari reiterated that the Apni Party is committed to working for the welfare of Jammu & Kashmir and that they are ready to participate in the elections despite being a relatively new party.
He said that in the Lok Sabha polls, political parties have lost while religious leaders won the hearts of people.
“In north Kashmir, two party heads lost elections there. In south Kashmir, a president of another political party was defeated. In central Kashmir, the Apni Party’s provincial president lost the elections. There were only religious leaders like Mian Altaf and Aga Ruhullah who achieved success,” he said. (KNS)
