Srinagar, Sep 05: As a step towards Popularization and promotion of sustainable Backyard poultry rearing, Krishi Vigyaan Kendra Srinagar SKUAST-K undertook an initiative for the distribution of Elite strain of Poultry birds among the small household Poultry farmers across the zones of District Srinagar as an attempt to revive the poultry sector to meet the minimum dom1estic consumption demand.
On the occasion Head KVK Prof. S A Simnani in his interaction underscored the urgent need to setup small scale organic poultry units not only for livelihood security and income generation but also for the production of organic egg and meet production at grassroot level so as to cater the growing demand for organic foods.
Dr. Malik Raies Ul Islam, Scientist (Animal Science), shared his expertise on the proper management and health care of the poultry birds. He provided the beneficiaries with detailed technical guidance on Rearing of birds in a healthy manner, ensuring optimal growth and productivity in backyard conditions. The soul aim of the programme is to undertake comparative study to access the periodical growth and adaptability of the birds so as to evaluate the best performing strains under the local farming conditions.
At the culmination of scientist farmer interaction, elite strains of poultry birds were distributed among the participating poultry farmers of the area.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the support provided by KVK Srinagar, which not only supplied them with superior poultry birds but also equipped them with the knowledge needed to successfully raise and manage their flocks.
