Srinagar, Sept 02: The Kashmir Marathon, set to take place on October 20, is drawing considerable interest from participants across India, according to officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Yasha Mudgal, Secretary of Tourism for J&K, said that registrations remain open until September 5, with strong enthusiasm for this year’s event.
As per tourism department officials, “There will be 2 main categories full marathon of 42 km half marathon -21 km The course is designed to showcase the beautiful valley of Kashmir taking runners under chinar trees, into Mughal gardens and along Dal Lake.”
Bollywood superstar Anil Kapoor has also endorsed the event, encouraging athletes and sports enthusiasts to take part in the Kashmir Marathon 2024, promising a remarkable experience.
Organizers have been meticulously preparing for the marathon, holding several meetings to ensure a smooth and successful event. This year’s marathon is part of a broader strategy to position the Union Territory as a leading sports and tourism destination in Asia, , an official statement said here today.
This means fans have something more to look forward to, the event organizers have announced a confirmed prize pool for 2024. The organizers of the Kashmir Marathon 2024 have announced an impressive prize structure, offering substantial cash rewards across various categories for both men and women.
For the Full Marathon, the overall winners in the men’s and women’s categories will receive a grand prize of ₹25,00,000 each. The runners-up will take home ₹20,00,000, while those finishing in third, fourth, and fifth places will be awarded ₹18,00,000, ₹15,00,000, and ₹12,00,000 respectively.
In addition to the overall prizes, the marathon will recognize top performers within specific age groups 18-35 Age Group: The first-place winners in both the men’s and women’s categories will receive ₹1,00,000 each, while the second and third-place finishers will be awarded ₹75,000 and ₹50,000 respectively. 36-50 Age Group: The same prize structure applies, with ₹1,00,000 for first place, ₹75,000 for second, and ₹50,000 for third for both men and women. Above 50 Age Group: Participants over 50 will also be rewarded, with the top three finishers in both men’s and women’s categories receiving ₹1,00,000, ₹75,000, and ₹50,000, respectively.
For the Half Marathon, the overall winners in the men’s and women’s categories will each receive ₹15,00,000. The second-place finishers will be awarded ₹12,00,000, while the third, fourth, and fifth-place winners will receive ₹9,00,000, ₹6,00,000, and ₹3,00,000, respectively.
There are also specific cash prizes for different age groups 18-35 Age Group**: In both the men’s and women’s categories, the first-place winners will earn ₹75,000 each, while the second and third-place finishers will receive ₹50,000 and ₹25,000, respectively. 36-50 Age Group.
