Srinagar, Feb 14: To acquaint participants with the history, principles, enforcement and protection of human rights, with a special focus on the rights of vulnerable sections of society and their intersection with education, the UGC-Malviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Kashmir University (KU), organised a two-week ‘Refresher Course on Human Rights (multidisciplinary)’ that concluded here.
Faculty members from various colleges and universities within and outside Jammu and Kashmir participated in the course.
In a telephonic message, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof Nilofer Khan, emphasised the need to integrate human rights compliance into teaching-learning processes, stating: “It is imperative that we imbibe the values of human rights in our educational practices to create a more inclusive and equitable society. The successful completion of this course marks a significant step towards achieving this goal,” an official statement issued here read.
Speaking at the valedictory function, Registrar, Kashmir University, Prof Naseer Iqbal, highlighted the course’s role in shaping participants’ attitudes and outlooks towards human rights issues.
“Such courses are helpful in addressing the attitude, beliefs, mindset, thinking and outlook of the participants in visualising the issue of human rights in its proper perspective,” Prof Naser reiterated.
Emphasising the universal entitlement of all individuals to human rights, regardless of gender, caste, creed, or colour, Director, UGC-MMTTC, Prof Mushtaq Ahmad Darzi, underlined the significance of refresher courses in fostering academic growth among higher education teachers.
“Such refresher courses are a window to understanding the core of human rights and also the need to uphold such values for proper social functioning,” Prof Darzi said.
Course Coordinator, School of Law, Dr Mir Junaid Alam from the School of Law, KU, provided an overview of the course. Coordinator, MMTTC, Dr Faheem Masoodi conducted the proceedings of the course sessions while as Coordinator, MMTTC, Dr Kartar Chand Sharma delivered the formal vote of thanks, the statement further read.
