VC SKUAST-Jammu chairs 13th SAC meeting of KVK Kathua

Jammu, Aug 22: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kathua organized its 13thScientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting under the Chairmanship of Dr. B. N. Tripathi Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu.
Dr. B. N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor in his remarks appreciated the coordination between KVK and line departments. Emphasizing upon the issue of enhancing farmers’ income, Prof. Tripathi suggested concentrating on value addition, post-harvest management and market linkages. He advised KVK to develop model demonstration units on new technologies such asprotected cultivation, processing, packaging and seed production etc.
He suggested the scientists to concentrate on branding of productsfor facilitating farmers in marketing their production different parts of the country. He further suggested to organize mass awareness programmes on government welfare schemes for farmers. Dr. Tripathi also suggested KVK to facilitate farmers at every step of supply chain rather than focusing only on demonstration of technologies. He also advised to document farmer’s innovations for motivating rural youths in the district.

Dr. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu advised scientists to undertake scientific trials on new technologies, including varieties, plant protection chemicals etc. He stressed upon the need for conducting impact assessment of KVK activities so that the successful interventions may be replicated in other parts of the district.

Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry suggested to introduce programmes on animal husbandry, including veterinary clinical camps etc. Dr. J.S. Soodan, Dean, Faculty of Dairy Technology offered to organise trainings on value addition of milkfor farm womenin collaboration with KVK. , Dr. Vikas Tandon, Faculty of Horticulture & Forestry suggested KVK to introduce improved varieties in vegetable clusters.

Dr. Hema Tripathi, Associate Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu suggested to include recommended technologies of universities and research stations in on-farm trials. She advised KVK to focus on skill courses for rural youth and stressed upon the organization of impactful events by KVK. All the officers of line departments also shared their valuable inputs for finalizing the action plan of the KVK. Rimpy Sharma from SHG, Surekha Devi from FPO and progressive farmers Dilawar Singh and Kewal Krishan also shared their views.

Earlier, Dr. Vishal Mahajan Chief Scientist & Head welcomed the participants and presented the action takenreport of 12th SAC meeting. He further deliberated upon the work done and progressreport of KVK andpresented action plan for the year 2024-25.

The scientists of KVK Dr. Anamika Jamwal, Dr. Berjesh Ajrawat, Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma and Dr. Vishal Sharma discussed their proposed scientific interventions. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Anamika Jamwal.
