Srinagar, Aug 01: The Martyrdom Day of Hazrat Imam Sajjad (AS) was observed with deep reverence and devotion in Shalimar. It was highlighted by a solemn Zuljinah procession that served as the focal point of the commemoration.
The event drew thousands of mourners who gathered to honour the legacy and teachings of Imam Sajjad (AS), a revered figure in Islamic history.
The day commenced with a sombre atmosphere in Shalimar, as mourners assembled to pay tribute to Imam Sajjad (AS). The traditional Zuljinah procession, symbolising the horse of Imam Husayn (AS), was adorned with traditional decorations and accompanied by mournful chants and recitations.
Aga Syed Hassan Mousvi Safvi, President of Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman Sharia Shian and head of the Interfaith Dialogue Chapter, addressed the proceedings. He highlighted the teachings of Imam Sajjad (AS), focusing on justice, perseverance and spiritual resilience. Aga spoke on how Imam Sajjad’s (AS) life continues to inspire and guide believers in their quest for justice and ethical conduct.
Imam Sajjad (AS), the fourth Shia Imam and son of Imam Husayn (AS), is remembered for his steadfast commitment to upholding Islamic principles and his resistance against oppression, Agha said.
The day’s observances, including prayers, reflections, and rituals, honoured his sacrifices and the lasting impact of his teachings. The procession through Shalimar was marked by participants dressed in traditional mourning attire, chanting elegies, and displaying banners and placards with messages of peace and justice.
Mourners were encouraged to carry forward the Imam’s legacy in their daily lives and communities. The event concluded with a communal prayer, seeking blessings and strength to uphold the principles espoused by Imam Sajjad (AS).
