Srinagar, July 05: After a 39-year wait, South African tourist Jocelyn finally set foot in Kashmir, a dream she had nurtured since 1983. Her excitement was palpable as she marveled at the breathtaking beauty of Gulmarg, indulged in the famous cable car ride, and praised the region’s progress. The Kashmir valley has witnessed massive influx in foreign arrivals due to improved security and the lifting of travel advisories by several countries.
“I am very pleased to be in Kashmir at last because I have wanted to get here since, you won’t believe it, 1983, and finally I’m here,” Jocelyn said with excitement in a video viral on social media platforms.
She expressed her joy in seeing the beauty of Gulmarg, and experiencing the famous cable car ride. “It’s an amazing experience. I’m thrilled to be here and looking forward to further travels in Kashmir.”
Tourism in Kashmir has seen a resurgence, especially after the G20 meeting was held in the region. The international event boosted the confidence of foreign tourists, leading many countries to lift their travel bans due to improved security.
For years, Kashmir was affected by terrorism, which severely hindered tourism. Frequent violence and unrest deterred travellers and impacted the local economy and livelihoods dependent on tourism. However, recent years have seen a decline in terrorist activities and an increase in security measures, creating a safer environment for residents and visitors alike.
With jam-packed occupancy, the Kashmir valley is reclaiming its status as a top destination for international tourists, promising economic growth and a brighter future for Kashmir.
